Welcome to the Evelyn City Neighborhood

Evelyn City is a subdivision of a large Tampa neighborhood known as Old Seminole Heights and was initially developed in the early 1900s. For the purposes of this blog, the boundaries will be: the Hillsborough River to the north, 275 to the West, 22nd Street to the East and Sligh Ave to the South.
There are many issues that need to be addressed and resolved in the area, however I feel that this is a great neighborhood to live in. We have a wonderful diversity of homes, people, parks, and businesses.

Traffic Calming

This issue has been a problem for a long time on Broad Street in paticular. We have requested studies, had studies done and been told the results do not reveal a problem. However, we all know that it is a problem. While the police have been very understanding and will setup speed traps, the City Traffic Department has been far less understanding. It seems that the City Traffic Department really on understands traffic flow in urban sprawl neighborhoods, where the neighborhoods were planned using 'modern traffic flow methods'. This problem is not new to this administration, however we are seeing little improvement in the handling of this issue.

There is currently on-going discussions with the city on the traffic down Idlewild from 22nd street to Nebraska Ave. This street is in much worse shape than any streets in our area, since it is a cut-through from the new 700 Unit housing project just off 22nd street and our wonderful Publix. It will be interesting to see what the city does and how quickly they do something, to mitiagate the increased traffic.

When I sit on my front porch I hear the cars bottoming out and see the wheel covers go flying. We need to slow the traffic. Some of the drivers are probably drinking on their way home from Alpine. But many of the offenders are our neighbors and others are the service people we hire. We need to make more noise about our concerns.

And, we are a cut through for the new Oaks at Riverside. It has gotten worse since that placed re-opened.

Let's all get together and write to the city. I can get the e-mail address or the phone number if others are interested in letting them know we are serious and are important too. I am afraid when I walk my dog and for my own safety. I have written before to them but they did nothing. A group effort would make all the difference.
