Welcome to the Evelyn City Neighborhood

Evelyn City is a subdivision of a large Tampa neighborhood known as Old Seminole Heights and was initially developed in the early 1900s. For the purposes of this blog, the boundaries will be: the Hillsborough River to the north, 275 to the West, 22nd Street to the East and Sligh Ave to the South.
There are many issues that need to be addressed and resolved in the area, however I feel that this is a great neighborhood to live in. We have a wonderful diversity of homes, people, parks, and businesses.

Sexual Predator and Offenders moving into an apartment unit very near our neighborhood.

The John Calvin Presbyterian Church has been a location for children to gather and learn for years. They have finally decided to build out a daycare center and a pre-school. They filed their request on December 8, 2006. When they went before City Council to get their Special Use Zoning request a few weeks ago, everyone was stunned to learn that sexual offenders and predators were being housed next door. Chris Stover, his wife and a third partner purchased the property at 6601 N Nebraska Ave in March 2007. In April he moved the property into the name of a trust called the 6601 Nebraska Ave Trust, making himself the trustee. He somehow convinced a parole officer with the Dept of Corrections that it was an OK location to house a sexual predator.

He told City Council that it did not make sense to house sexual predators next to a Daycare, we all agree. The problem is the Church was there first, and the plans to build out a day care were also there first. Chris Stover told City Council that he plans to fill the 2 four-unit apartments with these Sexual Offenders/Predators and obtain $600.00 per month for each offender/predator. Turns out the City of Tampa can not find his business license, rental inspections, or permits for the thousands of dollars in work he claims to have done.

This brings up several questions:
1. Why did the Dept of Corrections miss the fact that children gathered at the church and why did they not research to find out if someone had active requests to setup a day care or pre-school?
2. Where is this $600.00 per month per offender/predator coming from?
3. Should these types of people be allowed to live in close proximity to each other?
