Welcome to the Evelyn City Neighborhood

Evelyn City is a subdivision of a large Tampa neighborhood known as Old Seminole Heights and was initially developed in the early 1900s. For the purposes of this blog, the boundaries will be: the Hillsborough River to the north, 275 to the West, 22nd Street to the East and Sligh Ave to the South.
There are many issues that need to be addressed and resolved in the area, however I feel that this is a great neighborhood to live in. We have a wonderful diversity of homes, people, parks, and businesses.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MEGAN ALLEN, Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year
Megan teaches at our very own Cleveland Elementary School and according to the St. Pete Times article, her students love her. She was chosen because of her unorthodox teaching style and numerous community services programs she has spearheaded.

For those of you unfamiliar with Cleveland Elementary, I encourage you to visit the school located between Nebraska Ave and I-275 on Hamilton Ave. This was the first school to be built in the area and was recently renovated. I visited the school a few years ago when I was OSHNA's Home Tour Chair and selected the school to receive that year's donation. The teachers and staff were wonderful and I could see the pride on everyone's face to showcase their school. At the time there was concern due to low census because the units at The Oaks at Riverview were still under construction. The FCAT scores for this school may not be the best, but the students are obviously receiving some great education from this teacher, and others as well. If you want to help this school with time or materials, please call the school at 276-5583. The current Principle is Peter Russo.
