Welcome to the Evelyn City Neighborhood

Evelyn City is a subdivision of a large Tampa neighborhood known as Old Seminole Heights and was initially developed in the early 1900s. For the purposes of this blog, the boundaries will be: the Hillsborough River to the north, 275 to the West, 22nd Street to the East and Sligh Ave to the South.
There are many issues that need to be addressed and resolved in the area, however I feel that this is a great neighborhood to live in. We have a wonderful diversity of homes, people, parks, and businesses.

From an email:
Wanted to let all of you know that some of the kids in the area are at it again. My house was robbed on Monday morning/afternoon...as was my neighbors. He happened to come home for lunch and found things on the floor that weren't there when he left in the morning. There were 2 black teenager boys, 15-17 years old, seen leaving my yard just before he got home. Not too sure of the time, around noon or so. The description is they had the baggy pants, baseball hats on backwards, and one of the neighbors knew what one of the boy's underwear looked like. They also carried backpacks. They kicked in my back door and they got into Chris and Mike's house through a window that they were able to jimmy open. The police were able to get quite a few fingerprints off items in my house and my neighbors. They also got great footprints from the soil next to the fence...you could see where they jumped over the fence and then back again into my yard. Not sure if they hit my house first or what exactly what their pattern was. The saddest part is the pair of diamond earrings that were taken from Chris's house. These great guys just moved into the neighborhood a couple of weeks ago, and his parents were visiting and brought him his grandmother's earrings that were left to him in her will. They got those, which is a much greater loss than anything else taken, regardless of the value. They only took those things that were small to carry...like cash, jewelry, watches, laptop, videocamera items that they could easily be concealed. So be ever vigilant and notice those kids that don't live in the neighborhood. I'm sure they are still around looking for the next home to violate. Well, I have been planning on reactivating my burglar alarm system, and I guess this just moves it up my priority list. Be safe!

Oh, jeez! This is the second time for you, isn't it.

Some suggestions to everyone. Keep your porch light on at night. The darker it is the easier it is for the burglar to do his dirty work unseen.

Make sure your doors are all locked and, if you have a burglar alarm, set it and be sure you have signs outside that indicate you have an alarm.

For your car, make sure it's always locked. Get an alarm, if you don't already have one. Get one of the ones that has a blinking light on the dash indicating the alarm is set. Don't leave anything in your car that can be seen from outside. That includes loose change, CD's, mobil phones, etc., etc.

If you have no yet filled out the TPD inventory sheet , do it know. The sheet is an inventory of everything you own especially serial numbers on all your electronics.

If you have a video camera video all your possessions and keep the video in a safe place. OR take photos. Both help the police identify your property at the pawn shops. BTW that's where most of your stuff ends up when it's stolen.

It is so sad that this stuff happens. But, it does. We need to do as much as possible to ensure that we can get our stuff back.

There are two men who are hanging around Broad and 10th and are suspicious. They arrive in a small white compact car. The driver is white, 40ish, glasses, long sleeved white dress shirt and silver/grey hair. The passenger is olive skinned and has short black hair. They sit in their car and scope out a house. The passenger has a clip board. They claim they are there for the "general insurance". But the homeowners have no ordered any insurance. They do not give our their business card and don't give out their names. If you see these men, pleae call the police immediately.
